Fall Service Weekend 1/5: Farm Event

Description: Come glean with us! Harvest fruits and veggies to help the hungry! Spend a fine autumn morning volunteering for the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC), a community-based non-profit that provides nutritious supplemental food assistance to Arlingtonians in need. We will be out in the fields at Miller Farms, picking produce, a.k.a. “gleaning,” for 2 to 3 hours. Nice to have, but not essential: reusable tote bag, gardening gloves, drinking water, and spending money for the market stand (maybe take home a pie or two!).  Layered clothing and sneakers or other closed-toed shoes are recommended.  Children aged 5 and up are welcome, and carpooling and/or metro pickups will be arranged as needed.

Directions: From the District/NoVa: take I-295S to I-95/495N to Exit 7A MD-5/Branch Ave South toward Waldorf.  Drive 4 miles to exit onto MD-223 S/Woodyard Rd toward Clinton. Drive for 3.1 miles, Miller Farms will be on the left just past Steed Road.

Carpooling can be organized for those without transportation from either Branch Avenue Metro (Green line) or we will coordinate pickups.
