Next run: Saturday, July 11 at 8am. Register here-- it helps! We will offer ideas for gearing up (and registering / paying for) your first 5K, half- marathon or marathon if any are a long term goal. You'll meet members of the SSS Marathon team who have the inside scoop on how to get a bib by running the Marine Corps Marathon on Oct. 26 as a fundraiser for a good cause. But, no pressure-- we're not all marathoners! Many of our group run much shorter distances, they come simply to walk the dog, or just stroll and socially connect, or can tell you about doing a marathon as a run-walk. We build mutual support at the level of interest. NOW is a great time to start your training for the Marine Corps Marathon! You can read our group's Running Journal for insight on how two of our group did it last year. CCW sponsored Stop Soldier Suicide, raising a ton of dough for the provision of mental health services for soldiers in crisis. SSS has 75 bibs to give to runners who fund raise for them, and their resources make it EASY and so fulfilling to participate. Here is their MCM /SSS bib application link, so get a MCM bib for free and start bonding with their runners who come from all over the country. They are regular people like you and me, vets, nurses, moms who want to support evidence-based suicide prevention! Get a bib, and we'll help you spread the word of your fundraiser to alumni! Let us link your donor page here! Contact Maggie (who was on their national team last year) in order to get connected with coordinator Ryan Winters and SSS. Give us a date a couple weeks ahead of time to post here for CCW (and with enough lead time, we can put it onto the Events Calendar.) Just volunteer to be a "host" that greets the group. Send the date, location/logistics, time and your email address for us to post to community service @ cornellclubdc .org [no spaces] What to expect at a CCW running meet-up:After introductions and a brief update on Cornell Club events, we typically set out as runners and as walkers on the trails outlined in the map below. Take a look to choose your preferred distance and pace! It's as social as it is for healthy exercise. But the Mall is not the only place we run. We also have interest declared in running at Rock Creek Park, and there are folks who do Park Runs. |
Will you be a Marine Corps Marathoner this year? We had two in 2025 who supported Stop Soldier Suicide and Alzheimers Association as "fund-racers." We already have 1 for 2026. Update: SSS has distributed half of their 75 bibs for Oct. 2026 with a July 31 deadline to complete their team. Register and we'll post your donor link!
Thank you, SSS, for inviting Cornell Club members aboard!
