The Bondareff Award was conceptualized by Howard Epstein '57 and modeled after similar awards given by other clubs to honor long and distinguished service. The award was named for Esther Schiff Bondareff ’37 and her husband, Daniel Bondareff ’36, to honor their many years of service to the Club. The Cornell Club of Washington first presented the award in 1984 to Bob McKinless '48.
Melvin Zurn will complete his third term as a Director on the Board of the Cornell Club of Washington (CCW) in 2019. He also served as Vice President for Membership from 2005 to 2008. When he first came on the board, he volunteered to serve on CCW’s Investment and Audit Committee. As an investment professional, Mel studies the Club’s investments, recommends changes, and makes sure the accounts are fully diversified as a precaution against risk. According to the other Committee members, he is the only one who really understands investments.
During the few years when Mel had young children, he left the board but remained on the Investment and Audit Committee, where he continues to serve. He has also chaired the 2017 Annual Dinner, commemorating the 50th anniversary of combining of the men’s and women’s clubs into the Cornell Club of Washington in 1966, and the 2018 Annual Dinner.
CCW is grateful for Mel’s many years of service and for CCW’s continued stability.
