The Bondareff Award was conceptualized by Howard Epstein '57 and modeled after similar awards given by other clubs to honor long and distinguished service. The award was named for Esther Schiff Bondareff ’37 and her late husband, Daniel Bondareff ’36 to honor their many years of service to the Club. The Cornell Club of Washington first presented it in 1984 to Bob McKinless '48.
This year’s award recipient, Mrs. Diana Day ’56, has been a long and active supporter of the Cornell Club of Washington, especially in the crucial area of programming. She, with her late husband, Robert Day ’56, have long provided strong support for the programming team for our club. Diana has co-coordinated or supported a number of successful and Best Program award-winning programs, including educational luncheons, Anacostia watershed clean ups, local rowing events, Dragon Boat races, the Avalon Silent Film Tribute to Ed Berkowitz '56, and our very successful sesquicentennial Ezra Cornell in Washington tour. She gives of her time generously, not only to our club but to her class and other philanthropic causes.
