Description: Volunteer for an urban greening and conservation project at a DC elementary school! Approximately 12 volunteers will be involved in a schoolyard restoration project, which includes creating a native forest community park and a vegetable garden. 

The event will involve basic gardening and consist mostly of manual labor, including weeding, mulching, and maintaining paths. The site will provide us with all necessary tools; the only gardening items you need to bring are yourselves! Kimball Elementary is adjacent to Fort Dupont Park, so bring your picnic lunch and hiking shoes to enjoy the parkland after completing the event! Please dress in comfortable, easy-to-clean clothing.

This will be CCW's fourth year at Kimball Elementary! Come see how our adopted school garden has changed!

Directions: Kimball Elementary School is located at 3375 Minnesota Ave SE, Washington, D.C. It is accessible from 295 (Anacostia Freeway) from the North or South via the Pennsylvania Ave E exit towards Andrews AFB. Turn left from Pennsylvania Ave SE onto Minnesota Ave SE.  (Meet at the north side of the school, parking access from Ely Place. Park on Ely if the school parking lot is closed.)
The site is Metro accessible. The nearest Metro stops are Minnesota Ave on the Orange line (1.3 miles away) and Benning Road on the Blue line (1.4 miles away). The V8 bus runs from Minnesota Ave metro as well as L’Enfant Plaza Metro directly to the school - take the Ely Place stop.
