**Volunteers needed to drive apples back to AFAC headquarters in Arlington. An SUV or minivan is needed. Please email Laura if you can drive.**
Join your fellow Cornell alumni as we harvest fruit to help the hungry! Spend a fine autumn morning volunteering for the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC), a community-based non-profit that provides nutritious supplemental food assistance to Arlingtonians in need. We will be out in the orchards in Winchester, VA, picking apples, a.k.a. “gleaning,” for 2 to 3 hours.
Recommended gear: reusable tote bag, gardening gloves, drinking water, and spending money for the market stand (maybe take home a pie or two!). Layered clothing and sneakers or other closed-toed shoes are recommended. Children aged 5 and up are welcome, and carpooling and/or metro pickups will be arranged as needed.
Location: Marker Miller Farms, Winchester, VA.
Please note that this location is NOT metro accessible. The farms are approximately at 90 minute drive, so we will organize car pools for those who do not have transportation.
Questions: Contact Laura Gonzales Meyers '04 at Lmg38@cornell.edu. Day-of leader: TBD
Please note that this event is weather-dependent!
