While many Americans despair of the current state of U.S. politics, when we examine the past, we find that the United States has undergone repeated crises of democracy throughout its history. During this charged election year, taking lessons from these crises is more important than ever.
Join us to hear from co-author and College of Arts and Sciences John L. Senior Professor of American Institutions Suzanne Mettler MA '92, PhD '94 on her new book, "Four Threats: The Recurring Crises of American Democracy". In conversation with NBC's David Gura A&S '06, explore moments in history when democracy in the U.S. was under siege, and the four distinct characteristics of disruption that emerge. What lessons can we learn to strengthen and renew our democracy now? What can Americans do to give everyone a voice?
