The World Financial Crisis: Where Are We Now and Where Are We Going

  • 03/19/2013
  • 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Ronald Reagan Building, 13th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington DC

Registration

There's still time to register for the 3/19 Cornell Panel on the world financial crisis, featuring top faculty and alumni and sponsored by the Cornell Club of Washington, the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies, and the Woodrow Wilson Center.

Moderated by Professor Fredrik Logevall, Director of the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies and Professor of History at Cornell, our expert panel promises a stimulating and though-provoking discussion:

• Robert C. Hockett, Professor of Law at Cornell and co-author of "The Way Forward," a sweeping reassessment of the global economic crisis.

• Knight Kiplinger ’69, editor-in-chief of The Kiplinger Letter, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine, and one of America’s most respected economic journalists.

• Michael Casey ’94, Managing editor at Dow Jones and The Wall Street Journal and the author of “The Unfair Trade: How Our Broken Global Financial System Destroys the Middle Class”

Five years have passed since the outbreak of the "Great Recession," and it's time to take stock. How do things look today? Has enough been done to rectify the weaknesses of international institutions responsible for fostering global economic and financial stability? How should we assess the current threats posed by the Eurozone crisis and the accompanying reforms? What is the likelihood of currency wars and how serious is the problem of competing exchange rate policies?  How much longer will China keep its faith in U.S. assets and the U.S. dollar? Is there a dollar crisis on the horizon if Washington can’t fix its fiscal problems?
