The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, in collaboration with
Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital, presents:
A Falconer’s Memoir
This documentary follows falconer, author, and environmentalist Dan O’Brien as he attempts to train three young Peregrine Falcons at his ranch near Bear Butte, South Dakota.
Tim Gallagher, falconer, author of Falcon Fever and Editor-in-Chief of Living Bird magazine at the Cornell Lab, will introduce the film.
The film will be followed by a discussion with falconer Tony Huston, with clips from Look Up and Wave Your Glove (UK, 2005), a documentary by Tony’s son, Matthew Huston. The Earth Conservation Corps and Wings Over America will present live birds of prey used in falconry.
Tim Gallagher (left) has been fascinated by birds since childhood. He has travelled on several expeditions to Greenland, Iceland, Canada, and Alaska to study raptors. He is the author of five books, including Falcon Fever, a memoir tracing his lifelong interest in falconry. Tim has been Editor-in-Chief of Living Bird magazine at the Cornell Lab for more than two decades.
This event is free to the community but space is limited.
