It would be a tour and lecture at my exhibits. “The Magical World of Joan Danziger” and “Ravens: Spirits of the Sky”

In “The Magical World of Joan Danziger" exhibit you will discover six decades of magic and wonder. My retrospective at the Katzen presents over 100 works that trace my evolution from abstract painter to sculptor with surreal drawings, mythic landscapes and glass sculptures of beetles, horses and ravens. It is a world where myth and imagination intertwine. Whee acrobats tumble in brilliant Color, animals become musicians, and beetles crawl up the wall.

The Long Gallery at the Katzen becomes a glittering aviary in “Ravens: Spirits of the sky”. The wire and glass sculptures capture the raven’s mythic essence-some caught mid-flight, others standing watch as ancient sentinels. These sculptures capture my love of color with sculptural exploration, creating ravens that are abstract, terrestrial and celestial.

“Joan Danziger’s imagination inhabits a surreal world of myth and magic” says Museum director and curator Jack Rasmussen. “Her beautifully crafted works bridge the human and animal realms, offering visual delight and profound contemplation”.

There is paid parking.  Joan will meet people inside the Katzen. The exhibitions are on the third floor.

I graduated from Cornell University in 1954.  I earned a BFA from the School of Architecture. After graduation I lived in New York where I exhibited drawings and paintings in galleries and museum. I moved to Washington, DC where my husband got a job. My first exhibition in DC of sculpture was in 1970 at The Corcoran Gallery of Art where Ishown a five piece painted band in the rotunda. Since that time I have had many sculpture exhibits in galleries and museums around the country. My last exhibit before the Katzen was at The National Sporting Library and Museum in Middleburg, Va where I exhibited horses and scarab beetles in glass and wire. My sculptures are in collections of Smithsonian American Art Museum, National Museum of Women in the Arts in DC, Trenton Art Museum, Trenton, NJ, Grounds for Sculpture, Hamilton,NJ, Reading Public Museum, Reading, Pa and San Diego Museum, San Diego, California among others.
