Cheer Cornell Club's Marine Corps Marathon Runners on Sunday!
Register so all can look out for one another near Mile Marker 19, then see who shows up wearing red to cheer on Cornellians Alexandra, Al and JJ! They've organized, through CCW's Running Group, to make their epic 26.2 mile MCM runs count for charity!
11:15-1:15 Give or take! Join in when you can-- earlier if your runner is moving fast. Look for Andres in his Cornell shirt. We'll be part of the lively viewing crowd there (adjusting location as needed for good views.) If you cannot find the Cornellians, just show your support for the Team SSS runners any way and any place you can that day.
With 19 miles behind them, our runners will love our support as they attempt to get to the 20th mile marker (on the 14th street bridge) before a cut-off time (1:15 pm.)

Location: Gather Jefferson Drive SW and 14th street, SW. Consult the official MCM Race Map and note that you can use the Tracker App located under "Before you Go" to notice the path that marathoners take around the National Mall at miles 17, 18 and departing it at 19. Our meet-up spot provides to our runners encouragement as the race course bends away from the National Mall (just east of the Washington Monument) to send runners over the 14th Street Bridge and back to Arlington. (It is not far from the western side of the Holocaust Museum-- western side of the street probably works best, but use your judgement and just have fun.)
Closest Metro = Smithsonian. (Beware-- public transportation recommended for the day. The race starts at 7:20 am and with 40,000 participants, it precipitates many road closures.)
Wear red! Bring a clever poster that supports Cornell's runners Al, Alex and JJ and others!
Resources:
1) Scroll all the way through the "Before you Go" information to find additional suggested spectator locations, the app for tracking the runners, and more tips for transportation that might help you avoid road closures that day.
2) More Maps: race course elevation, etc maps are provided by MCM here.
3) Consider a donation to support our Cornellians' fundraising efforts with links and more info at our club's Running Page. They and generous Cornellian donors have raised over $3500 already for STOP SOLDIER SUICIDE.
4) Using the App to track our runners through their races: If we get them in time, we'll post our Cornellians' bib numbers at our Running Page so that you can track the progress of Al Goyburu, Alexandra Rothenburger, and JJ Myron. That page also provides a link to our Running Group's WhatsApp thread that might be useful to day-of-event logistical banter.
5) Aid Stations, Water Stations, Entertainment and more.
