Unique opportunity: Cornell's Wind Ensembles to perform here in April
Cornell alumni and their families and friends will be able to enjoy band music performed on Saturday, April 13, by over three dozen undergraduate musicians from the Cornell concert band, Big Red Marching Band and various other wind ensembles.
Known as the CU Winds, these Cornell students are coming to Washington to engage in service learning projects at two D.C. public high schools on Friday, April 12th. They will be conducting workshops and masters classes at H. D. Woodson H.S. in Southeast Washington and Eastern H.S. on Capitol Hill.
They are offering us a public concert on Saturday evening , April 13, starting at 7:30 pm. It will be held at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in its marvelous Auditorium, to be followed by an informal reception so that alumni and their families can meet and mingle with the Cornell student musicians. Prices for this event will be moderate and affordable for families with special pricing for students under 18.
Mark your calendars now for this unique event. Previously CU Winds have engaged in similar service learning projects in Costa Rica, Toronto and Philadelphia. This will be their first such tour ever in the Washington area.
The CU Winds have also been invited to participate with a 35-45 minute "Showcase" performance on the Jefferson Memorial Plaza on the Tidal Basin during the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The CU Winds are scheduled to perform there at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 13. These "Showcase " performances are free to the public.
