  • 06/10/2014
  • 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
  • The University Club of Washington D.C. Rooftop, 1135 16th St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20005
Join The Cornell Club-New York and the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development for an exciting Beer Tasting in Washington, D.C.! Enjoy the sunshine on the roof of the University Club while enjoying a wide array of hors d'oeuvres and sampling a selection of NY state beers (wine will also be available). Beer is the most widely consumed alcoholic beverage in the world and undergone a bit of a rebirth in the last 30 years, specifically in the U.S. In 1983, there were just 80 breweries in the country; today there are over 2,500 producing nearly 100 different styles.

Join us as Beer Expert Mike Reinitz '07 discusses the exploding craft beer industry, learn what beer is, how it's made, and of course, taste a few examples, with a focus on NY breweries. We'll also talk about beer and food pairing, discovering why beer deserves a prominent seat at the dinner table!

While studying engineering at Cornell, Mike Reinitz enrolled in an elective entitled "Understanding Wine & Beer," a senior-level, Food Science course focused on fermentation biology, beer & wine production, and sensory perception. The course sparked an interest in homebrewing and Mike went on to become a Certified Cicerone® as well as a BJCP (Beer Judge Certification Program) Certified Beer Judge. Today, Mike runs Reinitzgebot Consulting (when not passing the time at his "real" job), providing beer consulting services to the bar/restaurant industry, leading private tastings, and spreading the gospel of good beer. He also manages the DC Homebrew Shop at 3 Stars Brewing Company & teaches beer classes for the Washington Wine Academy.

Cost: $15 (includes open bar and hors d’oeuvres)
